Rhythm Codebreaker The music version of Mastermind. The codemaster writes out four units of rhythm (i.e. quarter note, eighth notes, quarter rest) or body percussion (snap, clap, stomp, rest) hidden behind Post-It Notes. Students have to clap or perform the four beats that they think the hidden rhythm will be. Beats become revealed as they guess them correctly. Can also be played in remote learning.
Shakedown Warmup Shake out your hand five times, counting 1-5. Then your other hand, then a leg, then the other leg. Then only count up to 4, up to 3, 2, and 1, ending by going "KABOOM!" Each class, choose a different language to count to five in. Ask students if they have a language they'd like to teach how to count up to 5 in. Some sheets I've made up: Arabic, ASL, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese, Spanish, Swahili, Tagalog
